The songwriter first began writing for major names in the biz in the early s, writing tracks for Ashlee Simpson's first two albums, all while being the genius behind six of Kelly Clarkson's songs on her sophomore album, Breakaway. With Britney's Blackout being one of her biggest albums, this was a major feat for Kara, who would later attach names such as Celine Dion, Pink, Natalie Imbruglia, and Fefe Dobson as singers she's written hits for.

Finally, Kara made her way over to Idol , however, it didn't seem as if she was too well received. During an interview with Fox News soon after her time on the show, she revealed that her time on Idol wasn't all that great! Kara said that because she was mainly known in the industry as a songwriter, that viewers weren't able to connect with someone completely fresh to the spotlight.

Although it was tough at times, DioGuardi made it clear that she learned a lot, and was able to face a lot of her fears at the time, especially when it came to being on TV. Now, Kara resides between Los Angeles and Maine, where she continues her efforts as a songwriter, all while building a life with her husband, and son! After facing a series of fertility issues , Kara and Mike decided to have a child via surrogacy.
